Norway’s Socialist Left Party (SV) politicians Bård Vegar Solhjell and Snorre Valen nominated Edward Snowden to Nobel Peace Prize.Two SV politicians said that Snowden’s disclosures of American surveillance data traffic has contributed to trust between nations and people in need for peace.
- The public debate and the political changes that have followed in the aftermath of Snowden case have contributed to a more stable and peaceful world order, wrote Solhjell and Valen as grounds for the nomination.
His actions have reintroduced trust and transparency as guiding principles in security. These values can not be overstated, states they in the nomination letter.
The two members of parliament from SV mean that Snowden has provided critical knowledge of how monitoring should take place in a modern society.
The deadline to nominate candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize for 2014 is 1. February. The Nobel Committee usually announces the winner at 11.00 on the second Friday of October.
